| Great Oaks Ranch and Vineyard
is currently home to sixteen American Quarter Horses. The
American Quarter Horse has long been valued for several sporting
pursuits and is the primary breed used in the long practiced
sport of working cow horse, reining and cutting. These horses
are a smart breed that is particularly suited to respond to
the subtle hand and leg movement the sport of reining requires.
Competitive reining is a demanding sport for both rider and
animal. In fact, it requires such a high level of skill and
both participants part that it was recently added as a sanctioned
event at the Summer Olympics.
Great Oaks Ranch's stable has been planned
so there is one group of horses that currently show their
value in the ring, and promise a next generation of offspring
to carry on that legacy when their days competing are over.
There is another group that are producing foals that have
the genes of champions in their veins. There have been four
foals born through the breeding program at Great Oaks Ranch
in the last three years. These are all registered American
Quarter Horses. They are already starting to show desirable
qualities that will make them attractive to quarter horse
buyers once they are trained.
Great Oaks Ranch has developed a stable
of horses that will help to build its reputation within the
professional circles of the American Quarter Horse
and National Reining Horse Associations as well as
with the average Quarter Horse enthusiast.
Michael Lippman personally rides the cow
horses both at the ranch and competitively. "I find that
I get more nervous when someone else is showing my horse,"
he said. "I prefer doing it myself." |
